PVI has pioneered development in the TFT industry. Since being established in Taiwan in 1992 as a subsidiary of the YFY Group, Taiwan’s foremost paper manufacturer and a leading force in recycling and reforestation initiatives, we have fortified our reputation consistently bringing cutting-edge technology solutions to our customers.
In early 2005, PVI entered the e-paper business via the acquisition of Philips e-Paper Display Division, gaining control over leading-edge e-Paper technology, facilities, and intellectual property rights. Combining this with our own outstanding technology and mass production capacity, PVI applied the latest manufacturing processes to develop MagicMirror® reflective display technology

PVI's active matrix e-Paper displays offer a bi-stable image with high reflectivity. The bi-stable image characteristics mean the display only draws power when the image is refreshed, while the reflectivity provides paper-like 180-degree glare free readability, and avoids the use of the power guzzling backlighting employed in LCDs. As a result, when used in a standard handheld e-reading device, these features create an extensive battery life of up to 7000 page turns per charge, equivalent to over 20 full-length books.
Moreover, since PVI's active matrix e-Paper does not compete with the sun but works with it, it also has good resolution under bright sunlight. This is a device that can be taken to the beach or enjoyed sitting down in a sunny park. With the increasing choices of e-book downloading facilities online, you can get access to books anytime of the day or night, even ‘out of print’ titles, anywhere you are.
Nearly a decade ahead of other companies, we adopted a-Si gate drivers in some of our first products, resulting in more compact and robust displays.
Harnessing the results of extensive research, we invested in the development of both the LTPS LCD and Reflective LCD displays, offering enhanced display products to our customers.
With the acquisition of Philips’ Electronic Paper Display business in 2005, we jump-started an immature technology, providing both the vision and technical expertise to boost display performance and stimulate demand.
Our continued research has led to the introduction of new production processes and technologies, such as MagicMirror® Reflective Display Technology and flexible displays. These innovations have popularized our breakthrough technology, keeping reading relevant in the Internet Age.
PVI’s philosophy is to fore-ground advanced technology development, commercializing advanced technologies for new markets across the globe.
